In the culinary industry since the age of 16, Ms. Calhoon owned her first restaurant by the age of 21 and has worked as a chief since 1998. Upon involving herself in corporate-style kitchens, her passion for cooking ignited as she learned how to care for guests and watch them grow through food and drinks. Since 2009, Ms. Calhoon has been the owner and chief of the restaurant Frescos in Lakeland, Florida. Her husband, Timothy Calhoon, also expresses dedication to the restaurant in his role of director of spirits and entertainment. Offering live music three nights per week, Frescos has been highly acclaimed in the state of Florida and has received glowing reviews. Likewise, Ms. Calhoon’s daughters, Jordan and Brittany, are also involved in the business as a chef and catering coordinator. Ms. Calhoon’s passion in the industry derives from her desire to make her guests happy and achieve their vision. Discovering how to recreate cultural and family traditions through catering jobs, she has found that her personal growth has come from these experiences. She has conducted significant research in cultural affairs to provide the most exquisite dining experiences. Alongside her primary career endeavors, Ms. Calhoon also dedicates her time as a volunteer and donor to various charities, including the American Cancer Society and the Achievement Academy. She has been a winner of numerous top chef competitions in the state of Florida, her renown being recognized on a local level. Believing in the power of hard work, she advises others to remember that success does not come overnight and one must work diligently to achieve their goals. Looking toward the future, Ms. Calhoon intends to open more restaurants and develop them enough to where their styles can easily be duplicated.
