315 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine C harles L. Welling is a respected tailor who was involved in the clothing industry for 38 years. Commencing his career in 1973, he served as the tailor of Men’s World until 1981 before taking on the same position at his own store, Welling Fine Tailoring, which he operated for 10 years. In 1991, he briefly served as tailor for Watson’s Department Store, having subsequently worked for Rider’s Clothing Store in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, as tailor from 2000 until his retirement in 2011. Discovering the world of tailoring from a formative age, Mr. Welling spent significant time at his local tailor’s shop at the age of 19, where he stayed to absorb the knowledge passed onto him. A natural perfectionist, he spent amble time on his pieces until he was completely satisfied with the result. In addition, his faith in God reassured him that tailoring was something he was innately meant to do, and he always demonstrated a proficiency in working with his hands. Impressively, Mr. Welling was the tailor for the Canadian Pavilion at the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. Likewise, he was invited to the opening ceremony by the Commissioner General of Canada as their special guest. During his time spent in tailoring, Mr. Welling was an experience ministry worker who worked for Christian Radio WJCR-FM in central Kentucky. He also volunteered his time as a lay preacher for jails. For 15 years, he held AA meetings every Monday night in the local Detention Center. He was a financial supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of America, St. Jude Children’s Hospital since 1991, the Salvation Army, PETA and the ASPCA. Named Best Program Speaker of the Year by the Hardin County A.M. Rotary Club in 2007, Mr. Welling also was recognized as Donor of the Year by the Disabled American Veterans. However, he notes that the highlights of his career have been the moments he was thanked profusely by community members for his participation in local charities. He credits not his own fortitude, but the influence of his faith in God. CHARLES L. WELLING TAILOR (RETIRED) Rider’s Clothing Store Leitchfield, KY RETAIL, WHOLESALE, DISTRIBUTION AND SALES
