317 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine a fellowship in ophthalmology at the University of Florida between 1976 and 1979 and became an adjunct instructor of ophthalmology at theMount Sinai School of Medicine from 1980 to 1981. From 1983 to 1988, Dr. Barris served as an assistant professor of optometry at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, having thereafter returned to the continental U.S. as a research assistant of psychology at Queens College in 1989. From 1990 to 1992, he was an assistant professor of internal medicine at Michigan State University, as well as a visiting assistant research professor of biochemistry in 1994. At the conclusion of his career, he served as an assistant professor of optometry at Nova Southeastern University from 1995 until his retirement in 1998. Among his notable achievements, Dr. Barris is most proud of publishing 43 papers, which have been highly cited in the medical community. He has also contributed myriad articles to such publications as Documenta Ophthalmologica, the Annals of Neurology, Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, the Journal of Physiology and the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, among others. He is also renowned for developing a laser speckle visual stimulator of evoked cortical potentials and discovering that the visual sensitivity of women increases on the day of basal body temperature rise. He further confirmed that the electro- oculogram Arden ratio is inversely proportional to ocular malignant melanoma mass. As a testament to his success, Dr. Barris has accrued several fellowships and grants from such prominent institutions as Fight-for-Sight, the National Society to Prevent Blindness, the American Cancer Society and the National Eye Institute. Impressively, he was highlighted in the first edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. D r. Michael Craig Barris was inspired to enter medicine after working in a psychiatric hospital during his undergraduate studies. Earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester in 1966, he went on to receive a PhD from the City University of New York in 1976. During his doctoral studies, he served as an adjunct lecturer of psychology at Queens College for five years.
