CO-OWNER Liberty Bicycles, Inc. Asheville, NC CLAUDIA PUGH NIX TRANSPORTATION S ince 1980, Claudia Pugh Nix has been the co-owner of Liberty Bicycles, Inc., a bicycle business located that educates individuals on bicycle safety and creates events to unite like-minded bikers. Likewise, she is the advocacy team chair and Buncombe County team chair of the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides funding for a variety of bicycle-related projects in Western North Carolina, as well as promotes bicycle education, healthy living and transportation planning and programs. Ms. Nix was instrumental in the development of the Point Lookout Trail through the North Carolina Department of Transportation. In addition, she helped in getting Asheville designated as a silver- level walking-friendly community and bronze-level bicycle-friendly community. In 1998, she aided in the development of the first bicycle transportation map for the City of Asheville and Buncombe County. Ms. Nix is proudest of winning the Clay Makin Advocacy Award from Quality Bicycle Products Co., as well as being rated among the Top 100 Dealers in the United States by Bicycle Dealers Magazine since 1992. 368
