298 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine also earned a Bachelor of Arts in modern history and Master of Arts from the University of Cambridge in England. Earlier in his career, he was employed by Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and then became partner at the Coudert Brothers; Sidley & Austin; and McCarter & English. In light of his legal prowess, he was elected a fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Further, he maintains affiliation with the Century Association, the Russell Trust Association, the Shenorock Shore Club and the Grolier Club. Among the highlights of his career, Mr. Richards found the negotiation for the conveyance of the New York High-Line to be a gratifying moment. Spending 14 years dedicated to the cause, he served as a significant advisor in efforts to save it. Likewise, he was the youngest ever chair of the Real Property Section of the American Bar Association and of the Anglo- American Real Property Institute, having also been to international speaking engagements. R ecently retiring from Steptoe & Johnson LLP in 2019, David Alan Richards, JD, served as senior counsel for the firm for six fruitful years. Deciding early on that law was the right path for him, he always viewed becoming a lawyer as an engaging profession in both life and politics. During his legal career, he is most proud of representing Tiffany’s & Co. in selling its building’s air rights to Trump Tower; representing all New York broadcasters for the antenna at the peak of the new World Trade Center; and guiding the donation of the High Line from its railroad owners to the City of New York for a public park. Alongside his legal career, Mr. Richards is a prolific author, having written books between 500 and 800 pages. Notable books to his credit include “Rudyard Kipling: The Books I Leave Behind,” “Rudyard Kipling: A Bibliography” and “Skulls and Keys: The Hidden History of Yale’s Secret Societies.” He is also an avid book collector and past president of the Scarsdale Public Library. Impressively, he has served as vice president of the Kipling Society and chair of the Yale Library Associates.
