502 MILLENNIUM S tanley Eugene Summers is a mechanical engineer who has seven decades of experience in his industry. In 1945 Mr. Summers began working for Interstate Engineering in El Segundo, Calif., where he learned how to design hydraulic and pneumatic valves for aircraft. After serving the company for 13 years, he accepted a similar position with Ametek Calmec in Los Angeles, formerly known as Calmec. In 1990 he left the company to join Senior Aerospace Ketema, in El Cajon, Calif., remaining there until 2015. During the 57 years prior to his retirement, Mr. Summers designed cryogenic valves for virtually all liquid-fueled rockets for the United States’ space industry. His valves are currently in use in the SpaceX rockets, among many others. He is the recipient of the Douglas Aircraft VIP Award, the NASA Achievement Award, the MacDonnell Douglas President’s Award, the Spirit of Excellence Award, and the NASA Silver Snoopy Award which is awarded to only one percent of the NASA workforce and its contractors each year. Mr. Summers remains active in the field as a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. W ith a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a postgraduate degree from the University of Michigan, Edward D. Surovell was well-equipped to become the force he is today. Before delving into the real estate industry, Mr. Surovell gained experience in publishing, serving as a copy editor and editor for several firms, including Harcourt, Brace & World, the New Jersey division of Princeton University Press, as well as Pearson Scott Foresman. He began his real estate career in 1973 as an agent for Fletcher & Klein, Inc., and then became a sales manager for Charles Reinhart Company Realtors after two years. With the experience he acquired from both companies, Mr. Surovell established his own agency, Edward Surovell Realtors, and served as president for 30 years. He is an avid book connoisseur whose collection includes more than 15,000 titles, some of which were published in the 1800s and make his one of the most unique anthologies in the state of Michigan.
