130 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S ince she was a child, Nancy S. Tesmer has enjoyed reading. As her parents were well educated, Ms. Tesmer also had the desire to go to college and initially thought she would become a teacher. However, when she found out about the library school nearby, she decided to study library education. Following this endeavor, Ms. Tesmer was a student at the University of Akron from1952 to 1954 and received a Bachelor of Arts from Kent State University in 1956. Following her graduation, Ms. Tesmer was a junior assistant librarian at East Branch Library in Akron, Ohio, from1956 to 1959. In 1959, she sought to become a hospital librarian – and performed in this capacity for the remainder of her career until her retirement in 1990. Ms. Tesmer spent 1959 to 1961 as a hospital librarian at the Northampton VA Medical Center in Massachusetts. Moving back to Ohio, Ms. Tesmer was a medical librarian and the chief librarian at the Brecksville VA Hospital from 1961 to 1973. Ms. Tesmer then spent 1973 to 1990 at the Cleveland VA Medical Center as an associate chief librarian, chief librarian and regional librarian. As a supervisor, Ms. Tesmer was known to have inspired loyalty among her colleagues. Throughout her career, Ms. Tesmer is most proud of the way that she advanced successfully and delivered good service to students and her local community. She enjoyed every moment of her tenure within the libraries and could not imagine herself in another career. Ms. Tesmer creditsmuch of her success to the greatest mentor in her life, Dr. Grideaux, the library director at Kent State University for many years. Ms. Tesmer is a member of the Cleveland Medical Library Association, theMedical Librarian Association and Zeta Tau Alpha, an international women’s fraternity. Now residing in Ocala, Florida, Ms. Tesmer enjoys counter-cross and needlepoint cross-stitching and reading in her spare time. NANCY S.
