10 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine R obert Wyman Maguire comes from a sales background, and his former boss thought he has the knack to move up the ladder. Prior to his impressive career promotion, Mr. Maguire attended Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont, and graduated with an Associate of Arts in 1964. In 1967, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Husson University in Bangor, Maine, and also pursued Boston University’s MBA program in 1987. Mr. Maguire began his career as a law enforcement administrator at the Governor’s Crime Commission in Montpelier, Vermont, in 1971. From 1973 to 1981, he was general manager of the Rutland Tribune and Shopper, where he excelled behind the scenes working in sales. Mr. Maguire’s expertise in finance, accounting and sales enabled him to shine as a publishing administrator. From there, he spearheaded his own publishing company, Maguire LTD, in 1981 until his retirement in 2008. Additionally, Mr. Maguire established the Maguire Newspaper Group, where he published the Poultney News and the Bisbee (Arizona) Observer. The highlight of Mr. Maguire’s career was being recognized by the Community Papers of New England. His company started off small, but ended up with an annual income of over $1 million. Ink Magazine also recognized the Maguire Newspaper Group in the 1980s for being one of the fastest growing businesses in the country. Outside of his profession, Mr. Maguire is a member of the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce and enjoys flying airplanes, collecting political buttons, scuba diving and studying ancient history in his spare time. In the past, Mr. Maguire has been part of the Epilepsy Foundation of Vermont, the Vermont Cancer Society, the New England Newspaper and Press Association, the Community Papers of New England, the Vermont Press Association, the Arizona Newspapers Association and the Safer Society Foundation, Inc., where he was vice president for two years. Additionally, Mr. Maguire was a member of the Vermont and Clarendon Republican Committees and chairman of the Windsor County Republican Committee.
