102 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine T hroughout his illustrious career, Dr. Joseph Laquatra has conducted his research and teaching efforts on sustainable aspects of housing. He has studied indoor environmental quality since 1986, has presented his findings at international and national conferences and has been published in numerous journals. His outreach efforts on this topic have been directed to homeowners and home builders. Dr. Laquatra received all three of his degrees from Cornell University: a BS in hotel administration in 1974, an MS in consumer economics and housing in 1982, and a PhD in consumer economics and housing in 1984. Dr. Laqautra has had the chance to pursue his work at his almamater, as well as internationally. He was a scholar-in-residence at the American-Polish Home Builders Institute in Gdańsk, Poland, in 1994, and participated in similar opportunities in Russia and Japan. From 1984 until his retirement as professor emeritus in 2017, Dr. Laquatra has held numerous positions at Cornell. He has been a professor within the department of design and environmental analysis and a Hazel E. Reed Human Ecology professor of family policy. He has also been an extension housing specialist. Outside of Cornell, Dr. Laquatra served as the director for advanced education at the Home Builder’s Institute. Prior to his time in graduate school, Dr. Laquatra worked for Project REACH and the Weber-Davis Housing Corporate while serving in VISTA. He conducted research for his MS thesis at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Laquatra has been a grantee of the Cornell Agricultural Experiment Station and of theNewYork State Energy Research andDevelopment Authority since 2003. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Engagement Award from the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges in 2006. Currently, Dr. Laquatra holds multiple civic responsibilities within his field of research. He was chair of the New York State Task Force On Toxic Mold and an advisory boardmember for the National Community Action Foundation. Dr. Laquatra was also on the EnfieldMobile Home Replacement Project Oversight CommitteewithBetter Housing for Tompkins County. Hewas chair of the Town of Dryden Planning Board.
