104 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION G rowing up in a musical family, music education seemed to be a destined path for Ronald Lee Lyford. His father was a junior high and high school band teacher and his mother played coronet in the World War II USO All Girls Band. Mr. Lyford graduated from Central Washington University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts in education and in 1973 with a Master of Music Education. He also received an Associate of Arts from Clark College in 1965. Mr. Lyford began teaching in 1967 and he has been a music teacher at multiple schools until his retirement in 2008. He has taught at Nogales School District in Arizona, Cornelius Lutheran School and Oak Tree School in Oregon, and Vancouver School District, Battle Ground School District and Thorp School District in Washington State. From 1994 to 2001, Mr. Lyford was an assembler at the Freight Liner Corporation. Additionally, Mr. Lyford taught flute seminars at Sahuarita School District in Arizona, woodwind seminars in Gallup, New Mexico, and brass seminars in Germany. Mr. Lyford has performed with various octets, bands and orchestras when he was not busy teaching. His mentor whose advice continued to push Mr. Lyford to succeed in the music world was his high school band teacher, Larry Morrell. Mr. Lyford was the recipient of the Aarion Award from the Battle Ground School District in 1963 for his outstanding contributions to the school and to music education. He is a member of the National Education Association, the American String Teachers Association and the Arizona Music Educators Association. Mr. Lyford is also an active member of the church, as he accompanies the worship leader on Sundays playing the baritone at Sycamore Baptist Church, and he was treasurer of the Faith Baptist Church in Vancouver, Washington, for 10 years.
