110 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION A university professor at New York University School of Law since 2007, Arthur Raphael Miller is a respected legal educator who formerly served Harvard Law School as a visiting professor, full professor and Bruce Bromley Professor of Law, holding the latter role for 21 years. At the inception of his career, he was an associate with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton from 1958 to 1961 before delving into education. First serving Columbia Law School as a lecturer and associate director of Project International Procedure, he then moved onto the University of Minnesota Law School as an associate professor for three years and the University of Michigan Law School as a full professor for seven years. Inspired to pursue law by one of his Harvard professors, Benjamin Kaplan, Mr. Miller looked up to Professor Kaplan as a role model and desired to emulate his teaching style. Professor Kaplan also instilled in Mr. Miller a love for the law and the value of communication, particularly in the classroom setting. He became Professor Kaplan’s research assistant, and soon thereafter, saw the freedom and effect on others’ lives he had as an academic. Mr. Miller – whose credentials include a BA in history from the University of Rochester and LLB from Harvard University – has contributed to “Federal Practice and Procedure: Civil Procedure Cases and Materials” since 1969, has hosted syndicated television shows, and was featured on “Good Morning America” and BBC for his expertise, moments that he cites as career highlights. Mr. Miller has also been on PBS seminars and was previously appointed by the Chief Justice of the U.S. to be the reporter to the Federal Rules Advisory Commission in 1978, being reappointed in 1982. Notably, he was appointed by the President of the U.S. to be on the National Copyright Commission. Additionally, he is a host of a podcast series honoring 50 years of his Wright & Miller publication, featuring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which can be found on Thomas Reuters.
