160 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine L ynn McMaster Markley always had an inquisitive mind, which is what his wife believes drew him to study the sciences. It takes a certain type of mind to be a successful rubber and plastics company executive, and Mr. Markley achieved that accomplishment for several decades until his passing in 2019. Mr. Markley received a BS in chemistry fromMount Union College in 1960. He later went on to achieve an MBA from Akron University in 1966. Beginning in 1994, Mr. Markley was the manager of quality and technology at Bailey Transportation Products, Inc., in Conneaut, Ohio. Previously, he was the director of manufacturing quality assurance at Uniroyal/Goodrich Tire Company in Akron, Ohio, from 1986 to 1994. Mr. Markley held various positions at Uniroyal between 1974 and 1986, including director of operations staff, director of product engineering, director of materials, director of quality assurance, manager of quality assurance and manager of passenger materials. From 1966 to 1974, he was manager of materials at the Dunlop Tire Company in Buffalo, New York, and from 1962 to 1966, he was laboratory manager of General Tire Company in Akron. Mr. Markley’s first job in his industry was research chemist at PPG Chemical from 1960 to 1962. One of Mr. Markley’s career highlights occurred while working for Dunlop. He was called in to work on a project involving a popular golf ball, previously known for its long drive, which developed an issue with losing its round shape, making it difficult for golfers to hit it as far. Using his materials knowledge and creativity, Mr. Markley and his team fixed the issue and developed a new design, which was more efficient, with a longer drive, than the original model. Outside of his busy career, Mr. Markley was a member of the American Society for Quality. Married to his wife Ina for 60 years before his passing, he is also survived by his two sons, Dr. Jerry Markley and David Markley; one daughter, Margaret Branch; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Mr. Markley will be remembered as a shining beacon of inspiration for friends, family and colleagues alike.
