170 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Dingkun Ren received his Bachelor of Engineering in precision instruments from Tianjin University in China in 2011. He came to the United States to further his education, where he received a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 2013 and a DEng in electrical and computer engineering in 2018, both from the University of California Los Angeles. Out of college, he began his career as a research assistant at the University of Glasgow and UC Los Angeles. At UC Los Angeles, he served as a teaching fellow and a postdoctoral researcher. In 2019, Dr. Ren began working at Lumileds in San Francisco as a developmental engineer. Driven since his college years, Dr. Ren has a plethora of research interests, including semiconductor light-emitting diodes, nanoscale photo detectors at short and mid-wavelength infrared, and the exploration of nanoscale geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes for single-photon detection at near infrared. Dr. Ren was the recipient of the MRS Spring Meeting & Exhibit Travel Award in 2017 and the Best Undergraduate Thesis Award in 2011. He is a member of the Optical Society and the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. DEVELOPMENTAL ENGINEER Lumileds Santa Clara, CA DINGKUN REN, DENG F rancis M. McManus Jr. received a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1959 and an MBA from George Washington University in 1962. He became involved in his profession because he recognized the need for private and public entities to write and release their interests publicly. Prior to his undergraduate studies, Mr. McManus served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea from 1953 to 1955. Mr. McManus served as editor andpublisher of themonthly newsletter The Resource Recovery Report from 1976 until his retirement in 1999. He calls his editorship of the newsletter the highlight of his career, as it covered such environmental issues as energy conservation and recycling before they became widespread international issues. Additionally, Mr. McManus was an executive director of the American Paper Machinery Association from 1979 to 1991. In this role, he established international contacts with paper manufacturers in Finland and Sweden. In the 1960s and 1970s, Mr. McManus also worked at the Can Manufacturers Institute, Glass Packaging Institute, the National Institutes of Standards and Technology, the Metropolitan Washington Board of Trade, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
