Rubinson’s father ran a massive retail music store called Thoroughbred Music, the third largest music store in the world, before selling it to Sam Ash Music in 1999. Inspired by the music business, Mr. Rubinson sought after a career to honor his family’s legacy. In 2014, Mr. Rubinson received a BA in economics and public policy, with a specialization in international trade, from Duke University. Applying his educational knowledge to his career, Mr. Rubinson has served as the chief executive officer and president of Armadillo Enterprises, a musical instrument manufacturer, since 2016, where he drove a 33% net income increase in only one year. He previously worked with Armadillo Enterprises in 2013 as an international sales strategist. Mr. Rubinson has also been chief executive officer and chief investment officer for Koroit Capital in 2016, self-employed portfolio manager of financial services from 2014 to 2016, and a private equity analyst with Prometheus Partners in 2012. Calling finance an aggressive industry, Mr. Rubinson said it was refreshing to enter a field that was welcoming and shared a common love. However, the music world can be just as rigorous as finance, and Mr. Rubinson says that only the strong survive. You need to have the right game plan, strategy, mentality and ability to orchestrate individuals and the company in the right direction. Mr. Rubinson has been named in the top 225 in terms of musical suppliers and manufacturers in the world by the Music Trades Organization for the past 10 years. He has also been involved in the National Association of Music Merchants Yearly Convention for 25 years and has served as a volunteer with the RCS Food Bank since 2011. Mr. Rubinson attributes his success to the mentorship he received from faculty at Duke University and his parents and coaches. In five years’ time, he intends to continue growing and managing the company while reducing his workload. He would also like to establish another hedge fund. EVAN A.
