228 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Anthony D. Ivankovich received his MD in 1963 from the University of Zagreb in Croatia and brought his talents to the United States after completing a residency in internal medicine in Germany in 1965. Upon his arrival to the United States, Dr. Ivankovich completed an internship and residency in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Dr. Ivankovich is the former director of the Rush Pain Center and was chairman of anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center for 26 years until his retirement in 2006. In addition, he taught in his field for 15 years, most recently at the Cook County Postgraduate School of Medicine from 1975 to 1985, and he taught anesthesiology at Rush Medical College, the University of Chicago and Loyola University. Likewise, he is a past member of the U.S. Army Reserve, having been chief of operating room services and chief of surgery at the 801st General Hospital. Writing has been a large part of Dr. Ivankovich’s career as well, delving in research on topics such as anesthesia, cancer therapy, liposomes, and thoracic surgery. He most recently co-authored “Liposomes in Drug Delivery,” “Clinical Anesthesia Updates” and “Clinical Anesthesia,” among many others. Continuing to serve as a trustee for Rush University Medical Center since 2005, Dr. Ivankovich was formerly active as the Center’s president of medical staff, director of the Women and Children’s Hospital, associate vice president, director of surgical services and chair of anesthesiology. Dr. Ivankovich is a member of various prestigious organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Pan American Medical Association, the Illinois State Medical Society and Sigma Xi. Dr. Ivankovich is also a member of the International Anesthesia Research Society, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society for Intravenous Anesthesia and the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists.
