Releasing her biography to the public in 2020, Dr. Basquin considers Ms. Bute to be one of her formative influences. Dr. Basquin recieved a Bachelor of Arts from Goucher College in Baltimore in 1963 and obtained a Master of Arts from Indiana University in 1970. She additionally went on to obtain a PhD from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati in 2009. Previously affiliated with the Metropolitan Museum of Art as an administrator in Drawings and Prints for 14 years, Dr. Basquin served as a museum research associate at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 2000. Over the years, she has also been an administrator, curator and director at galleries in Indiana and Milwaukee. Since the inception of her career in 1971, the galleries at which Dr. Basquin has worked include the Washington Gallery in Frankfort and Indianapolis, and Kit Basquin Gallery in Milwaukee. She also worked at an auction house, William Doyle Galleries in New York. She worked in public relations at the Indianapolis Art Museum, and as a curator of education at the Haggerty Museum at Marquette University. She was a guest curator at the Art Museum at Indiana University. Additionally, Dr. Basquin was an art history teacher at Concordia University in Milwaukee, at the Fine Arts School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and in a Marquette University program in Gaza. She maintains affiliation with The University Club in New York, where she has sat on the special events committee since 2016. She is also a member of the James Joyce Society and MasterVoices. Dr. Basquin’s hobbies remain within the arts, as she enjoys singing and theater. D r. Kit Smyth Basquin, a writer, art historian and educator, accrued 43 years in her fields prior to her retirement in 2014.
