232 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A fter emigrating from Germany at the end of World War II, Dr. Miriam Levitt’s family encouraged her to become a physician as an opportunity to serve the United States for helping them during trying times. Dr. Levitt received her Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. She subsequently interned and completed her residency in pediatrics at the Montefiore Medical Center. Since 2003, Dr. Levitt has been the Medical Director of the Bronxville School District, and since 2007, a member of the Medical Executive Committee at the Montefiore Medical Center, where she has also served as a voluntary attending physician since 1975. Lending her expertise to academia, Dr. Levitt is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Levitt has served as Director of Pediatrics, President of the Medical Staff, Member of the Board of Governors, and has been a voluntary physician on the medical staff at New York-Presbyterian-Lawrence Hospital since 1978. What Dr. Levitt finds most rewarding about her profession is fighting against human suffering. She was recognized as an honorary founder of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1995. Dr. Levitt is a member of the Westchester County Medical Society, sits on the Board of Governors of the Albert Einstein College Medicine Alumni Association and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is also a physician volunteer with ServNY, is an expert for the Office of Professional Medical Conduct with the New York State Department of Health, and is certified in travel medicine by the U.S. Center for Disease Control. In addition to her medical career, Dr. Levitt was elected Mayor of Scarsdale, New York, in 2011, after having served as Police Commissioner, Fire Commissioner, and as a Member of the Scarsdale Village Board of Trustees. Serving as Mayor was a defining moment for Dr. Levitt, because she was able to serve and give back to the community where she and her husband, Harvey Flisser, raised their three children.
