234 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A dmiring the doctors and pharmacists in his El Salvador community, Dr. José Lozano chose to pursue a career in medicine. He was a rotating intern at the National Medical Center in El Salvador before receiving his MD from the University of El Salvador in 1965. He then spent two years as an assistant resident and then resident in internal medicine at Rosales Hospital. After immigrating to the United States, he spent 1968 to 1974 as a resident in internal medicine and a fellow in nephrology at the Baylor University Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas. For nearly 20 years, Dr. Lozano has been the medical director of the Kidney Center in Jasper, Texas, and in Beaumont, Texas. He was previously the medical director of BMA Orange, BMA Jasper and the Golden Triangle Dialysis Center. Additionally, he was a staff member of internal medicine at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont Medical/Surgical Hospital and Baptist Hospital. Outside of his work, Dr. Lozano has also contributed to teaching. In 1971, he was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of El Salvador, and in the United States, he taught at the Baylor College of Medicine. He was an instructor of medicine in 1974, an assistant professor of medicine in nephrology in 1975, and a clinical assistant and professor of medicine from 1976 to 1980. Dr. Lozano has been named to the Best Doctors list and a Top Doctor by Consumer Reports. He attributes his success to his confidence, but he remains humble as he says he still has much to learn. He has great pride in helping his patients and aims to approach them as if he was a patient with their same concerns. He hopes in each patient he sees and every new obstacle they cross that he is able to fulfill his mission of service. Dr. Lozano is a member of the American Medical Association, International Society of Nephrology, Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society, Jefferson County Medical Society and the Kidney Health Care Advisory Committee. He is also a fellow of the American College of Physicians and American Society of Nephrology.
