240 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Lawrence D. Petz received an MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1955. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1962 and was re-certified in 1974, and certified as a Diplomate with a subspecialty in hematology in 1974. He was president of the California Blood Bank Society from 1998 to 1999 and amember of the California Blood Bank Society Board of Directors from 1994 to 2000. Dr. Petz was chief of the Hematology Immunology Research Unit, Institutes of Medical Sciences and the Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco; section head of Hematology and Blood Transfusion Services; chairman of the Division of Medicine and director of the Department of Clinical and Experimental Immunology at City of Hope National Medical Center; and professor of pathology and director of transfusion medicine at UCLA Medical Center from 1987 to 2000. Since 2001, he has been the medical director of the StemCyte International Cord Blood Bank. He is author or co-author of over 250 publications in major medical journals, which emphasize immune hemolytic anemias, transfusionmedicine, immunohematologic problems associated with bone marrow transplantation, and suggestions for curing HIV by performing hematopoietic transplantation with naturally mutated cord blood stem cells.
