244 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Sam T. Scaling set his sights on being a doctor from a young age, and during his medical school rotations, he felt a strong connection to babies and their delivery. This passion ultimately led Dr. Scaling to his career as a successful obstetrician and gynecologist. He received his BS from the University of New Mexico in 1967 and MD from the University of Tennessee in 1971. Dr. Scaling completed an internship at the Confederate Memorial Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1971 and a chief residency in obstetrics- gynecology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1978. Around the same time, Dr. Scaling was in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was a major in the U.S. Air Force from 1972 to 1977. In 2019, after a nearly 50-year long career, Dr. Scaling retired. Before his retirement, he was the founder and president of Women’s Health Associates of Wyoming beginning in 2001, and he had worked at a private practice from 1978 to 2019. However, the majority of Dr. Scaling’s career took place within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Wyoming Medical Center. He has served as chairman, chief of staff, vice chief of staff and secretary of medical staff of the department over the course of 38 years. Additionally, Dr. Scaling has served as medical director of the Wyoming Medical Center PMS Clinic and medical director of Caring Center, Christ- Centered Childbirth and Casper Family-Centered League Lamaze Prepared Childbirth. For his excellence in his field, Dr. Scaling was named to America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists by the Consumers Research Council of America for 10 years. Dr. Scaling has been a member of various prestigious organizations, including the Natrona County Medical Society, the American Association for Physician Leadership, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the Wyoming Medical Society, the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the American Fertility Society. Additionally, he is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He continues to write children’s books in his spare time. SAM T.
