250 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S ince she was a child, Dr. Sharon Linde Wann always had a fascination with teeth. Initially, Dr. Wann thought she could only attend hygiene school because she had never heard of women dentists in her hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. However, when a university counselor encouraged her to consider dental school due to her impressive grade point average, she finally found the courage to pursue her passion. She was one of only two women in her dental school class and was the president of her senior class. Dr. Wann studied chemistry at the University of Oklahoma and then went on to receive her Doctor of Medical Dentistry in 1985 from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. Dr. Wann has been in practice at her office, Sharon Wann Family Dentist, since 1985. She has expertise ranging from preventative dentistry to dental implant restorations and aesthetic enhancements, such as teeth whitening and clear correcting aligners. To be a successful dentist, perfectly fixing crooked tooth or making a physical change to a patient’s smile does not entail the entire job. Dr. Wann believes a dentist must be a nurturing, caring individual and needs to make their patients feel comfortable. Studies show that up to 75% of Americans experience some dental-related fear and 20% avoid dental care because of their fear. Dr. Wann credits her success to her caring, dedicated nature, and in light of her attributes, she was named to Tulsa’s Top Dentists. Dr. Wann is a member of the Tulsa County Dental Society, the Oklahoma Dental Association, the American Dental Association and the Tulsa branch of the Seattle Study Club. In five years’ time, Dr. Wann intends to still be practicing and hopes that the physical toll dentistry takes on the body will not affect her yet. Many dentists retire before they want to because of arthritis in their hands and neck. When that day comes for Dr. Wann, she would like to teach. In her free time, Dr. Wann enjoys reading, watching motorcycling, college football and professional basketball, and spending time with friends and family.
