251 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine O riginally planning on become a history teacher, once Dr. Leslie P. Weiner was welcomed into medical school, he found a quick interest in neurology. Dr. Weiner received a BA from Wilkes College in 1957 and MD from the University of Cincinnati in 1961. Dr. Weiner also served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1965 to 1967. Prior to his 2016 retirement, Dr. Weiner was the Richard Angus Grant senior chair in neurology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine beginning in 1987. He was also chair of their neurology department from 1979 to 2003, and has been a professor since 1975. Dr. Weiner also taught at Johns Hopkins University. Alongside his career in research, Dr. Weiner’s work is documented via his time as editor of Neural Stem Cells Methods and Procedures in 2007 and as associate editor of Neurobase from 1994 to 1995. He was also a member of the editorial board of Infectious and Geographic Neurology in 1994. The highlights of Dr. Weiner’s career were his contributions to the development of a vaccine for multiple sclerosis, and also the virology he researched over the years. He also became involved in stem cells, which led to him becoming the chairman of the Connecticut State Stem Cell Peer Review Committee in 2007. A life lesson that Dr. Weiner learned and can pass down to the next generation is to always think of the benefit of the patient, and that honesty is important in both your research and clinical efforts. Dr. Weiner is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research, Association of University Professors of Neurology, Society for Neuroscience, American Neurological Association and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Weiner is also a grantee of the Heron Foundation, Oxnard Foundation, McDonald Foundation, Race to Erase MS Nancy Davis Centers Without Walls, National Institutes of Health, Kenneth Norris Foundation and Conrad Hilton Foundation. Likewise, he is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the Slow Virus Laboratory at the National Institutes of Health. LESLIE P.
