277 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine G ary Jay Kushner received a BA from the University of Michigan in 1972 and JD from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1975 before becoming a major figure in the world of food and agricultural law. For the last four decades, Mr. Kushner has been involved in the development of nearly every law and regulation affecting the food industry. He analyzes legislation proposed by the U.S. Congress and regulations proposed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration, and he evaluates the impact on the food industry from farm to table. Mr. Kushner has been a partner with Hogan Lovells US LLP (formerly Hogan & Hartson LLP) in Washington, D.C., since 1989, where he helps address regulatory compliance issues, advises on product development, labeling, advertising and inspection, and represents clients in enforcement proceedings before government agencies and the courts. Mr. Kushner was vice president and general counsel at the American Meat Institute from 1982 to 1985 and staff counsel at the Grocery Manufacturers of America from 1976 to 1978. Additionally, Mr. Kushner had been a partner and associate with Collier, Shannon, Rill & Scott and an associate with Leighton, Conklin & Lemov. He served as a law clerk to The Honorable John R. Hess in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in 1975. For his inimitable service to his industry, Mr. Kushner was the recipient of the American Seed Trade Association Chairman’s Distinguished Service Award in 2006 and was selectedMember of the Year by the American Frozen Food Institute in 2019. He believes he would not be in the position he is today if not for the late George Koch, who was president of the Grocery Manufacturers of America. Mr. Koch hired Mr. Kushner as a fresh in-house lawyer when he was 26 years old. Mr. Kushner is a member of the American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, American Agricultural Law Association, American Society of Association Executives, Institute of Food Technologists, Association of Food and Drug Officials, and City Club of Washington.
