278 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Lannie served as executive vice president to three different companies: BusLease Inc., GLI Holding Company and Greyhound Lines Inc. Mr. Lannie moved on to Baroid Corporation, where he served as vice president, general counsel and secretary from 1991 to 1994. He was senior vice president and general counsel of Tejas Gas Corporation and Coral Energy between 1994 and 1999. In 1999, he was named president of Coral Energy Canada, and subsequently served as president of Kinder Morgan Power Company for the following three years. For Mr. Lannie’s years of work, the Houston Business Journal nominated him for the Best Corporate Counsel Award in 2016. In a career of high-profile and fast-paced legal work, the highlight of Mr. Lannie’s career was successfully out-buying a competing company for BP assets. The advice that Mr. Lannie can offer to aspiring attorneys is to work very hard and be intelligent and service-oriented. P aul Anthony Lannie has had a thrilling career in the legal world, and his education gave him the foundation to approach his future endeavors. Mr. Lannie graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, with a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 1974 and a JD in 1978, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. That same year, he was admitted to the Texas Bar. Mr. Lannie has been with Apache Corporation since 2003, and he currently sits as executive vice president and general counsel. He was senior vice president from 2004 to 2009 and vice president from 2003 to 2004. Apache Corporation is an oil and gas exploration and production company. Over the last 10 years, Apache Corporation bought $17 billion worth of assets and sold another $18 billion in an effort to reposition itself from an international and offshore conventional oil and gas company to a major player in North American shales. That created a frenzy of high intensity legal work in which Mr. Lannie thrived. Prior to his time with Apache, Mr. Lannie kick started his career in 1978 as an associate at Johnson & Swanson.
