282 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W hen William F. Richmond Jr. graduated from Marshall University with a BBA in 1967, he did not predict that his future would involve law. After his undergraduate years, Mr. Richmond worked as a juvenile probation officer and social worker. The judge with whom Mr. Richmond worked suggested he attend law school, and Mr. Richmond took his advice. In 1972, Mr. Richmond received his JD from the University of Tennessee, and that same year, he was admitted to the West Virginia Bar. Since 1972, he has worked in and out of private practice in Beckley, West Virginia, and since 2005, an assistant prosecuting attorney in Raleigh County, West Virginia. For his unmatched legal expertise, Mr. Richmond was the recipient of the 2014 Presidential Award and was recognized for meritorious service in 1999 by the Homebuilders Association of West Virginia. Mr. Richmond was an associate at Bowers, Hodson & Henderson from 1974 to 1976, a partner at Bowers, Hodson, Henderson & Richmond from 1976 to 1984, and a partner at Abrams, Byron, Henderson & Richmond from 1984 to 1996. From 1990 to 1993, he was an associate professor of real property law and administrative law within the paralegal program at the College of West Virginia. For 40 years, Mr. Richmond has represented employers in workers compensation and the federal black lung program. In one case, Mr. Richmond had a reversal in the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, and he established a significant ruling that helped employers in the Federal Black Lung Program. He is the President of the Woodrow Wilson High School Alumni Association and a past President of the Black Knight County Club and Raleigh County Bar Association. He also serves on the board of directors for the Southern West Virginia Home Builders Association and is a general counsel for the Home Builders Association of West Virginia. Civically involved, he was active as counsel and President for the Beckley Human Rights Commission and was appointed a mental hygiene commissioner of Raleigh County for several years.
