288 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine B rian D. Thiessen received a BA from Duke University in 1960 and completed additional work at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. After his Air Force service, where he served active duty from 1960 to 1963 and in the reserves from 1963 to 1965, attaining the rank of Captain, he received his JD from Hastings College of the Law in 1967. The same year, he was admitted to the State Bar of California. Since then, he has been admitted to the bar in several federal courts and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Thiessen currently maintains the Law Offices of Brian D. Thiessen in Walnut Creek, California, where for more than 50 years, he has handled a civil practice that includes real estate, land planning, contracts, elder abuse and construction defects, as well as being a Certified Family Law Specialist. In addition to private alternate dispute resolution with his Mt. Diablo Courthouse Alternatives Program, he has served as mediator and judge pro tempore for municipal and superior courts in Contra Costa County. Before completing law school, Mr. Thiessen worked with Kaiser Industries, and since then, has helped organize a local Savings and Loan and served as an adjunct professor at John F. Kennedy Law School. He has been active in his community and was Citizen of the Year from the San Ramon Valley, and later for the town of Alamo, has led Scouts in activities locally, nationally and internationally, and was awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s Silver Buffalo Award. He is past District Governor of Rotary International District 5160 and is active internationally with Rotary. He is past President of the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians and was awarded its Silver Wheel and Cliff Dochterman awards. Mr. Thiessen has been President of the Hastings College of the Law Alumni, Alumnus of the Year in 2000 for Hastings, and past President of the Contra Costa County Bar Association, Markham Regional Arboretum, Danville Area Jaycees, Alamo Rotary, San Ramon Valley Lions, and past Moderator of the First Congregational Church Berkeley.
