52 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT A s Dr. Shannon Wettstein grew up, she could never imagine doing anything other than music. Now a renowned pianist throughout the United States, she received a Bachelor of Music from the University of Kansas in 1990. In 1992, she obtained a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music, and in 2000, she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of California San Diego. Since 2015, Dr. Wettstein has been an assistant professor of music at St. Cloud State University, and she is currently working with a Calliope flute and piano duo. With the ensemble, she has played on three continents and will be performing again in China. Dr. Wettstein recently traveled to China to judge the American Classical Pianist International Piano Competition. At the inception of her career, Dr. Wettstein was an artist-in-residence at The Walden School, and then spent 1998 as a summer session artist faculty member with the New England Conservatory of Music. From 2000 to 2005, she was an assistant professor of music at Bemidji State University, and from 2005 to 2015, she was a studio artist in music at Augsburg University. Impressively, she was a pianist with Zeitgeist New Music; between her own solo work and the ensemble, she has released 15 albums. In August 2019, Dr. Wettstein went to the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum as part of the Sounds Modern concert series. She also recently played at the University of North Texas’ annual Intermedia Festival. She is renowned for performing the music of Frédéric Chopin, Alban Berg, Brian Ferneyhough and Claude Debussy. Dr. Wettstein was the recipient of the Saigo Excellence Award from St. Cloud in 2018 and Minnesota State Art Awards in 2010, among numerous other accolades. Looking ahead, Dr. Wettstein hopes to grow her international presence in the contemporary classical world, as well as host her own podcast. She is a member of the American Composers Forum, College Music Society, Music Teachers National Association and the Minnesota Music Teachers Association. She is also a board member of 113 Composers Collective and was a Merle Montgomery fellow. DR.
