63 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine W ith his background rooted in the Seattle Prep School, Hugh M. Ferguson was assigned many technical courses in school when he really wanted to focus on business. After speaking to the principal, he was switched to the classes he desired and thrived in the business atmosphere. In 1956, Mr. Ferguson received a BS in accounting from Seattle University, and in 1963, he went on to obtain an MBA from George Washington University. Mr. Ferguson is a certified data processing auditor, certified data processor and CPA in the state of California. In addition to his rigorous career path, Mr. Ferguson is certified in U.S. Navy Deep Sea Diving and Naval Communications. At the inception of his career, he was a data system consultant for CEIR in Arlington, Virginia, from 1961 to 1963 and for a technical operations research company in Washington, D.C., from 1963 to 1964. Moving out west, he was a manager of systems and programming at the Western Pacific Railroad Company from 1964 to 1970. For the following 10 years, Mr. Ferguson served as a management consultant for Ernst & Whinney before spending 20 years as president and director of Amicon Corporation between 1980 and 2000. The highlight of Mr. Ferguson’s career was his journey at Ernst and Whinney. He was initially hired as a senior consultant and was quickly promoted to supervisor. This was a grand accomplishment as it usually takes about five years to move up between positions, but for Mr. Ferguson, it only took one year. Subsequent to that promotion, he moved even further up into the management consultant position. Mr. Ferguson was also proud to be the recipient of the Alpha Sigma Nu Award in 1956, as only six people are selected annually. Mr. Ferguson is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, California Society of CPAs, Association for Information Systems, General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Naval Reserve Association and Reserve Officers Association. From 1977 to 1978, he was a member of the finance management advisory board for the San Francisco Unified School District. HUGH M.
