75 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION D r. Peter Gregory Angelo has selflessly dedicated his life to Adapted Aquatics in an effort to help the disabled. He even gave up a spot in the Olympic trials for swimming to spearhead research at Stony Brook University for individuals who are bound to a limited lifestyle by disability. Dr. Angelo received a BA in psychology and biology/pre-med, MA in English and PhD in English, all from Stony Brook University. From 1978 until his retirement in 2017, Dr. Angelo was the Director of Adapted Aquatics and Emergency Response programs in the School of Health Technology and Management at the Health Sciences Center of Stony Brook University. Dr. Angelo recalls a teenage girl with cerebral palsywho took her first steps on her own in aquatic therapy. This was the very first time in her entire lifetime that her mother saw her walk on her own. In addition to launching his program at Stony Brook, Dr. Angelo was the Director of Fitness and Aquatics at the New York Institute of Technology and was an Instructor and Trainer of Water Safety at the Northport VA Hospital. He was also the Director of Aquatics at the NewYork Association for Brain Injured Children, as well as the Coordinator of Recreational Swimming programs and Director of Aquatics for the Catholic Child Care Association. In addition to being an English Professor at Stony Brook University, he is a full professor at Long Island University/C.W. Post College and English Professor at Hofstra University. Dr. Angelo was awarded the New York State Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching fromStony Brook University. He holds teaching positionswith the Archdiocese of New York and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre. In addition, Dr. Angelo is established in teaching English language, grammar and literature at LIU. His PhD had three concentrations: the English Renaissance and the printing and publication of the King James Bible; great English authors and playwrights such as Shakespeare and Milton; and the history of the theatre from the Greeks to the Renaissance.
