90 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Teaching for more than 20 years in the same community, Ms. Gerlach has developed close relationships with her students and has garnered much respect from them. Teaching her students skills that they can use as they grow older, and also teaching them the importance of personal and physical fitness, has been the most rewarding part of her profession. Hearing her students express how much she has taught them has been the highlight of her career. Currently residing in Chamberlain, South Dakota, Ms. Gerlach is a member of the Society for Health and Physical Educators of South Dakota. In her spare time, she enjoys watching television and being with her friends. As a testament to her success and longevity in the field, Ms. Gerlach was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in America three times between 2010 and 2012 and in Who’s Who of American Women five times between 2007 and 2011. O riginally pursuing a career in the business world, Amy L. Gerlach felt compelled to change her course of study when talking to her college roommate, who was pursuing elementary education. Ms. Gerlach always enjoyed being in the company of children, and so she dwelled on the possibility of becoming a physical education teacher. With her dreams becoming a reality, Ms. Gerlach graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in physical education from Westmar University (formerly known as Teikyo-Westmar University) in Le Mars, Iowa, in 1995. Officially becoming a certified teacher in South Dakota in 1998, Ms. Gerlach kicked off her postgraduate years coaching various girls’ basketball teams. In 1998, she accepted her longstanding position as a physical education teacher at the Lower Brule School in Lower Brule, South Dakota.
