91 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in pulmonary research at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Godleski was a professor of pathology at the HarvardMedical School from2015 to 2017, and he was an associate professor from 1984 to 2015. He was also the leader of the pulmonary pathology unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1978 to 2015. Alongside his primary responsibilities, Dr. Godleski has been a consultant at John J. Godleski, MD PLLC, associate director at the Harvard EPA Clean Air Research Center, a leader of the inhaled particles research core, and the electron microscopy laboratory at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Additionally, from 1971 to 1973, Dr. Godleski was a surgeon and commissioned officer with the U.S. Public Health Service in North Carolina. Dr. Godleski’s contributions to pathology have led him to receive multiple awards. In 2019, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Professional Achievement Award from King’s College, and in 1989, he was given the Honorary Lifetime Fellowship from the Polish Society of Pathologists in Warsaw, Poland. In 1978, he was also the recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Despite his many awards, Dr. Godleski notes the highlight of his career was when his research paper was named the top research paper from any medical student in the country by the Student American Medical Association Scientific Forum in 1967. The paper discussed how cancer cells had different numbers of chromosomes. Dr. Godleski was a member of the Academy of Biological Sciences, the Aquinas Society and the American Heart Association. The mentors who motivated and inspired Dr. Godleski were Dr. Joseph Leighton, who was a pioneer in cell culture work, and Dr. Ramzi Cotran, a pathologist. I n college, Dr. John J. Godleski met a pathologist who reassured him that pathology was a suitable career choice. Dr. Godleski graduated with a Bachelor of Science from King’s College in Wilkes- Barre, Pennsylvania, in 1965 and an MD from the University of Pittsburgh in 1969.
