132 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Paul Albert Volz attended Heidelberg College, where he received Bachelor of Arts degrees in business administration and botany in 1958. Dr. Volz attended Heidelberg with intentions of becoming a minister, but after seeing how gifted he was in the sciences, his mentor Dr. A.G. McQuate advised him to pursue his true passion: the sciences. Dr. Volz went on to receive a Master in Science in botany and plant pathology in 1962 and a PhD in mycology in 1966, both from Michigan State University. He also achieved a second PhD in business administration fromCentury University in 1991. Dr. Volz has been the director of the mycology laboratory at Eastern Michigan University since 1976 and has been a professor at the university since 1971. He was an associate professor from 1969 to 1971. Dr. Volz had also been an assistant professor at Purdue University from 1968 to 1969 and the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee from 1962 to 1963. Dr. Volz was a senior postdoctoral fellow inbiospace technology at NASA from1969 to 1971. Hewas also a postdoctoral intern in medical mycology at the Indiana University Medical Center from 1966 to 1968. Additionally, Dr. Volz has been a visiting professor at various universities worldwide, including National Taiwan University in Taiwan, Haifa University in Israel and Wayne State University in Detroit. He has also served as a U.S. Citizen Ambassador through People-to-People and as a delegate to Egypt, Israel Turkey and China. In 1990, Dr. Volz was the recipient of the Kholodny Medal from the Ukrainian Institute of Botanical and Soviet Academy Science. He has also earned fellowships from the National Science Foundation, NASA and NATO. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the International Society of Human and Animal Mycology, the American Institute of Biological Sciences, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Fern Society and the Mycological Society of America.
