133 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION D r. Xingwu Wang received a BS in electrical engineering from Harbin Engineering University in China in 1978 and an MS in physics from Hangzhou University in China in 1981. Upon his immigration to the United States in 1982, Dr. Wang obtained a PhD in physics from the University at Buffalo in 1987. Since 1988, Dr. Wang has been a professor of electrical engineering at Alfred University. At Alfred University, he served as an assistant professor from1988 to 1993, an associate professor from1993 to 1997 and full professor from 1997 to present. During this time, he excelled as a summer faculty member at the USAF Civil Engineering Laboratory, the DOE Argonne National Laboratory and the USAF Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Wang was a postdoctoral research associate at the University at Buffalo from 1987 to 1988. Internationally, he was a teacher of physics at Hangzhou University between 1981 and 1986. He was also a teacher at the Hangzhou Naval School between 1978 and 1981. Dr. Wang’s father was his greatest influence, and he chose to follow in his father’s footsteps as he was a physics teacher at Hangzhou University for more than 50 years until his passing in 2008. Inspired by his father’s example, Dr. Wang chose to pursue a career in the related field of electrical engineering. Dr. Wang has 45 issued U.S. patents, and almost 90% of the patents are in thin film coating. He has more than 100 papers published in the Physical Review Journal and Applied Physics Letters, among other journals, and he participated in a panel discussion titled “Where is Technology Headed?” at the 2018 Congressional Clean Energy Expo and Policy Forum. He has acquired $1.2 million in research grants from industrial sponsors, along with $1.4 million research grants from various government sponsors over his career. In his free time, Dr. Wang is an active member of the American Physical Society. The advice that he can offer the next generation is to dive into the foundation of science, and understand basic science and engineering principles.
