Rui Pitanga Marques da Silva received a BS in mechanical engineering from Universidade Federal Fluminense in Niterói, Brazil, in 1978 and an MA from Université de Poitiers in Poitiers, France, in 1981. Dr. Pitanga spent 1982 as an intern at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Poitiers before obtaining a PhD in mechanical engineering fromCity University, London in 1989. After obtaining his doctorate, Dr. Pitanga returned to his native Brazil and became a Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ) scholarship recipient researcher at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro from1990 to 1994 and again from 2003 to 2010. He was also a FAPERJ scholarship recipient researcher at UERJ-Instituto Politécnico in Nova Friburgo, Brazil, from 1999 to 2002. Since 2010, Dr. Pitanga has served as an associate professor at the Federal Center for Technological Education of Rio de Janeiro. For excellence in his industry, Dr. Pitanga was named One of the Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Centre in 2000. He was also the recipient of the IBC Lifetime AchievementMedal of Honour and aCambridgeOutstanding Engineering Achievement Award. With all of her educational degrees, she has had an illustrious career in the classroom. Dr. Coonrod Vannoy began teaching in 1957 at Hood School & Heizer Elementary, as well as Emporia and Lincoln Public Schools in Kansas, the South Bend School Corp. in Indiana and the Fort Worth Independent School District in Texas. Moving up to the collegiate level in 1972, she taught at Indiana University, Indiana State University and Culver-Stockton College. She was also a visiting adjunct professor at Binh Duong University in Vietnam. From 1979 to 1981, Dr. Coonrod Vannoy was president of Debcon, Inc., and practiced as a private consultant in Bloomington, Indiana, from 1981 to 1985. She retired as an educational consultant in 2002. After her retirement from education, she served as a reporter and columnist for the Shelby County Herald from 2003 to 2008. The recipient of numerous awards, she notably received the Ethel M. Leach Award from the Texas Women’s University.
