142 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine P ossessing a love for languages from a young age, Dr. Hugh M. Fincher knew teaching was the path for him. He received a BA and MA in classics in 1967 and 1969, respectively, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1979, he obtained a PhD in humanities from Florida State University in Tallahassee. Over the course of a nearly 40-year long career, Dr. Fincher has taught at the collegiate and high school levels. At the collegiate level, he has taught English, French and Latin at Birmingham-Southern College, the University of Alabama, Limestone College and Converse College. He has also taught Latin, French, Spanish and German at Gaffney Day School, Trinity School, Union County Schools, the Village School and, most recently, Cherokee County Schools from 1984 to 2007. Delighted by such a varied career, Dr. Fincher credits his success to his passion, the success of his students and his mentor, Albert Suskin. He is a member of the National Education Association, Classical Association of the Middle West and South, South Atlantic Modern Language Association and the American Association of Teachers of French and German. FINCHER O riginally pursuing library science, Dr. Robert Earl Fidoten moved into the aerospace world and then transitioned out of military defense into the commercial industry. Dr. Fidoten received a BA from New York University in 1949, a BLS fromThe Pratt Institute in 1950 and a PhD in information science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1970. Dr. Fidoten commenced his career as chief librarian at Emerson College, then Brandeis University, and joined Link Aviation in 1952, charge of all engineering documentation and security. Following Link’s closure, he joined Republic Aviation Corp. from 1956 to 1964, and then served PPG Industries Glass Division as manager of research and staff services in 1964 and director of information systems in 1971. From 1989 until his retirement in 2007, he was an associate professor at Slippery Rock University. Alongside his success, Dr. Fidoten was named Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences in 1981 and was the recipient of a Presidential Citation from the American Ceramic Society in 1980. The highlight of his career was being asked to chair the international conference of the International Commission on Glass in 1980.
