144 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine J ulie E. Sillin Johnson received a BS from The Ohio State University in 1986 and later obtained an MA from Miami University in Ohio in 1995. She was a 1992 Graduate Fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Since she was a child, Ms. Johnson had a dream of becoming a teacher, and in 1988, her dreams became reality. From 1988 to 1994, Ms. Johnson was an educator with Cincinnati Public Schools, and for the following four years, she taught social studies at the Paideia approach Hughes Alternative Center. She created skill building lessons, designed laboratory activities, implemented simulations, conducted seminars and created small group activities. Ms. Johnson made a career switch in 1997, becoming a presenter for Englefield & Arnold, Inc. From 1998 to 2002, she was an evaluator at Data Recognition, Inc. Simultaneously, she served as an education coordinator and workshop developer at Kids Voting until her retirement. In her retirement, Ms. Johnson and her husband are one of three founding families for Greyhound Adoption of Greater Cincinnati. Additionally, she served as scholarship chair for the Cincinnati Ohio State Alumni Club. EDUCATOR (RETIRED) Cincinnati, OH JULIE E. SILLIN JOHNSON A researcher and educator, Dr. Barbara Sorenson Hulka has dedicated her career to improving epidemiologic methods through the introduction of biological markers and molecular epidemiology, as well as hormone replacement therapy as a causative factor in endometrial and breast cancer. Her work with the Federal Judiciary on the issue of breast implants and connective tissue diseases promoted the use of scientific data in the courtroom. The recipient of a BS from Radcliffe College and MS from The Juilliard School, she subsequently obtained an MD and MPH from Columbia University. During her 34 years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Hulka served as chair of epidemiology and was awarded a Kenan Professorship. Her affiliation with other organizations includes membership in the National Academy of Medicine and consultant to the World Health Organization. She was named professor emerita in 2001. For her dedication, Dr. Hulka was the recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Society for Preventative Oncology and the AbrahamLilienfield Award from the American College of Epidemiology. She has contributed her skills to myriad publications and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
