157 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine F ollowing his brother’s footsteps into the accounting world, Ulyesse J. LeGrange received a BS in accounting, magna cum laude, from Louisiana State University in 1951. Mr. LeGrange’s first served as a clerical employee at ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge Refinery in 1951 before working in London as an assistant controller at Esso Europe Incorporated, an affiliate of Exxon Mobile, from 1969 to 1970. Mr. LeGrange returned to the United States and Exxon in 1973, where he worked as deputy controller in New York, only to be promoted to president of the Exxon Pipeline Company in Houston in 1975, holding the role until 1997. In 1977, he became vice president and controller of Exxon Corp. in New York, and from 1983 until his retirement in 1991, he served as chief financial officer and senior vice president of Exxon USA in Houston. Post- retirement, Mr. LeGrange obtained a U.S. patent for the creation of a music training device and has composed over 50 pieces of music. Mr. LeGrange cites the highlight of his career was being in charge of the shipping services for Exxon. When the Valdez oil spill occurred in Alaska in 1989, Mr. LeGrange spent significant time putting things back into place. In addition to his lively career, Mr. LeGrange has been very active in his community. In Houston, he was proud to be involved with the Business Arts Fund, Houston Symphony Society, Houston Symphony Endowment Fund and Taping for the Blind. In New Jersey, he dedicated time to the Papermill Playhouse and the Citizens Budget Committee. Mr. LeGrange was also active with the Boy Scouts of America, Little League, Junior Achievement and the United Way. Likewise, he held high positions with Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, New York University and Louisiana State University. Mr. LeGrange served as chairman of the audit committee for the American Institute of CPAs and was president of Houston chapter of the Financial Executives Institute. For his outstanding work ethic, Mr. LeGrange was named National Accountant of the Year by Beta Alpha Psi and was inducted into the Financial Executives International Hall of Fame and Louisiana State University’s Business School Hall of Distinction.
