163 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine T hroughout his career as an engineer, Thomas C. Miles always believed the most rewarding part of his job was working with other engineers in a teamwork atmosphere. Employed by Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Co. for more than 30 years, Mr. Miles got to work with many different minds that, in turn, made him an even better engineer. Mr. Miles’ tenure with Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Co. in Marietta, Georgia, began in 1980 as an associate engineer of aircraft design. In 1982, he was promoted to engineer, and in 1985, he was promoted again to senior engineer. The ascension of roles only continued, as in 1989, Mr. Miles became a group engineer, and in 1990, a specialist engineer. Later on, he was promoted in 1998 to a specialist engineer and in 2001 to a staff engineer. Watching his brother switch majors in college, Mr. Miles wanted to enter college with a solid career choice for his future. His brother recommended the mechanical engineering program at Southern Polytechnic State University, now called Kennesaw State University. In 1977, Mr. Miles received a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering technology from Southern Polytechnic State University. He also completed postgraduate coursework at Troy State University between 1978 and 1980. Mr. Miles is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASTM International, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Oxygen Standardization Coordinating Group, and is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Additionally, Mr. Miles has been district vice president of Tau Kappa Epsilon, on the board of directors for the National Management Association, and president of the Wick’s Lake Homeowners Association. Mr. Miles has been the recipient of various awards fromTau Kappa Epsilon, including the Order of the Golden Eagle in 2019, Order of the North in 2017, Order of the Silver Maple Leaf in 2009, the Education Foundation Medal of Excellence in 2002 and the Southern Order of Honor in 1989.
