221 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A fter his mother became sick during his teenage years, Dr. Ala Ebaid felt compelled to learn about the inner workings of the human body. In his native Jordan, there is a test all students in the country must take, and the year he took the test, he scored seventh highest in the nation. In 2007, he received an MD from University of Jordan and completed his first residency in 2010. Dr. Ebaid loved biology, and he chose to immigrate to the United States in order to dive into innovative medical research. Upon arrival to the U.S., Dr. Ebaid completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of NewMexico in 2013 and was named Resident of the Year in 2015. In 2013, he began working as an internal medicine specialist at a private practice, and since 2016, he has been a hematology/oncology fellow at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. Board certified in internal medicine and certified in clinical research by the University of New Mexico, Dr. Ebaid credits much of his success to his many mentors. One of his mentors from Jordan was a neurosurgeon and worked with Dr. Ebaid during his internship. In the U.S., his two mentors with whom he is still working is Dr. Richard Lauer and Dr. Ian Rabinowitz. Dr. Ebaid also credits his father as his greatest inspiration; he obtained his PhD at the age of 50. He instilled in Dr. Ebaid to do whatever it takes to reach your goals, and that great things can happen if you work diligently. Dr. Ebaid is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American College of Physicians and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Looking ahead, Dr. Ebaid wants to join an institution, as well as become a citizen, remain in New Mexico and continue to help people. He would like to give back to the U.S. with what they provided him.
