224 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S haron S. Goode’s cousin, Geraldine Hogan, was her greatest influence growing up, and since Geraldine was a nurse, Ms. Goode also wanted to delve into nursing. Ms. Goode always had her eyes on the prize, but worried about the financial aspects of attending college. Her father took matters into his own hands and helped Ms. Goode receive a grant to attend St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, Illinois. Ms. Goode graduated from the St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1962, and she also holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in hospital administration from the University of Saint Francis in Joliet, Illinois. She is a certified gerontological nurse and rehabilitation nurse. Over her longstanding career, Ms. Goode has been the director of nursing and an in-service coordinator at McAuley Manor, a joint commission-accredited nursing and rehabilitation center, in Aurora, Illinois. She was the coordinator of nursing at the Bethesda Lutheran Home, and her first job in nursing was as assistant director of nursing at Au Sable Valley Home in Fairview, Michigan. The most rewarding part of Ms. Goode’s career was seeing her patients’ progress and getting to know them on a personal level. Caring for others has always been her passion, and to make that passion into a profession is a special opportunity. Ms. Goode’s three sons have always encouraged her to write a book, and she says she may consider doing so in the near future as her retirement approaches. With her many years of experience, Ms. Goode frequently offers her knowledge to new nurses in the industry. Her favorite academic areas to teach include body mechanics and transfer techniques. Ms. Goode is the chapter founder and past president of Beta Sigma Phi. In her free time, she enjoys attending church and spending time with her three children and four grandchildren. SHARON S.
