Hayes Sr., Esq., has served as a law clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge Hugh Scott at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York since 2004. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Howard University in 1985 and a JD from Yale University in 1988. Possessing a passion for the application of law, he enjoys the diversity of the types of cases he experiences. Prior to his current position, Mr. Hayes was assistant corporation counsel for the City of Buffalo, law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and associate at Phillips Lytle LLP and Paul, Weiss & Rifkind LLP. For excellence in his field, Mr. Hayes won the Minority Bar Association of Western New York’s Legal Service Award in 1999. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Bar Association of Erie County, Minority Bar Association and Phi Beta Kappa. In light of his contributions to the Boy Scouts of America’s Greater Niagara Frontier Council, he was twice named Tatonka District Volunteer of the Year in 2015 and 2018. LAW CLERK U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York Buffalo, NY A s a juvenile parole officer, Wayne E. Grannis desired to help children and set his sights on law school to positively influence troubled youth. In 2003, he achieved a JD from Georgia State University, where he previously received a BA in criminal justice. Mr. Grannis is currently a juvenile court judge and senior assistant district attorney with the Cobb County Government. From2003 to 2017, he was the deputy district attorney of the Fulton County Government. Mr. Grannis was mentored by juvenile court Judge Stanford Jones, who brought Mr. Grannis on the team as a staff attorney. In this position, Mr. Grannis was able to connect with children, which ultimately excited his interest in the field. In five years’ time, Mr. Grannis aims to ensure that the absolute best practices are observed in their court. He is a frequent volunteer at local schools, where he talks to school children about staying out of trouble, and he is currently creating a specialty court at the juvenile court called “Rising.” Mr. Grannis is a member of the Cobb County Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia.
