Richerson received a BS in ceramic science and engineering from the University of Utah in 1967 and an MS in ceramic science and engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1969. Since 2013, Mr. Richerson has served as the manager of minerals at the Natural History Museum of Utah, and since 1991, the president of Richerson and Associates. From1985 to1989,Mr. Richersonwas director of researchanddevelopment at Ceramatec, Inc., and from 1989 to 1991, was vice president of technology development. He also worked at Garrett Turbine Engine Company and the Norton Company, where he conducted cutting edge research on silicon nitride ceramics and was honored with the 1972 Admiral Earle Award from the Worcester Engineering Society. Parallel to his consulting work, Mr. Richerson taught at the University of Utah from 1991 until his retirement in 2013 and has continued to lecture internationally. Some of Mr. Richerson’s numerous achievements include his selection by the American Ceramic Society for the 2007 Friedberg Lecture Award, as well as his various U.S. patents, books and book chapters. He was honored by invitation to serve on two National Material Advisory Board studies and won the 2009 Outstanding Service Award from the University of Utah. The highlight of Mr. Richerson’s career was his development work on silicon nitride ceramics. He also considers a career achievement to be his 2000 and 2011 book “The Magic of Ceramics” being selected by the Ceramic and Glass Foundation to be included in a curriculum kit for high school teachers and students across the globe. Additionally, he authored four editions of the textbook “Modern Ceramic Engineering,” published between 1982 and 2018, which was adopted internationally and translated into Japanese. Mr. Richerson is a member of the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers and the Ceramic Education Council. He previously served as a fellow and sat on the board of directors for the American Ceramic Society, and established and chaired their ceramic education committee for over a decade. DAVID W.
