321 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine D r. Walter Alan Wolf has had an exemplary career in the sciences, education and community theater. He became involved in his profession of biochemistry and education because he believes that everyone should make an effort to share knowledge. In the late 1950s, he completed a summer internship at Cold Springs. The work inspired him to go into biochemistry. Dr. Wolf received a BA from Wesleyan University in 1962 and an MA from Brandeis University in 1964. He obtained a PhD in chemistry from Brandeis in 1967, and he later achieved an MS in computer science from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1985. After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Wolf served as a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1967 to 1970. Moving toward teaching, Dr. Wolf spent seven years at Colgate University as an assistant professor, and then 1977 to 1984 at Eisenhower College as an assistant and associate professor. From 1984 to 2012, Dr. Wolf served as a professor and chair of the department of computer science at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was the founding dean of the Golisano School of Computing and Information Sciences and was named professor emeritus in 2012. Dr. Wolf recalls one of the highlights of his career in the sciences as being his work with Dr. Wendell Roelofs at the Cornell University Agricultural Experiment Station. There, he was part of the team that was awarded the Wolfe Prize for work on insect pheromones. He also worked on para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), a major component of sunscreen. Dr. Wolf is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Association for Computing Machinery, American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi. A director of 10 plays for the Seneca Community Players, Dr. Wolf was the first recipient of a TANYS award – the Director’s Award for “Moon Over Buffalo” in 1997. He has received multiple community service awards with his wife, Doris, has contributed to numerous scientific papers and is listed in several Who’s Who publications dating back to 1986.
