37 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Mr. McCann sang in a local choral group and played in the school band, and he was later recruited for his college’s marching band and played with them at the Super Bowl in Miami, Florida. Mr. McCann received a bachelor’s degree in music education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1976 and later went on to achieve a master’s degree in educational administration from William Woods University in 2003. He has been the music director of Temple Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, since 1987, as well as a music teacher and director at various institutions. Mr. McCann has worked at Cavalry Baptist Church, Red Star Baptist Church, First Baptist Church and Doniphan Elementary School. He has also been a private guitar teacher at Three Rivers Community College and a news director and announcer at KPBM-FM. For his dedication and excellence in his profession, Mr. McCann was named Missouri State Teacher’s Association Educator of the Year in 2010 and was the recipient of the Community Service Award from the Missouri National Guard in 1991. Mr. McCann credits Gordon Beaver, his high school choir director who selected him for many important musical performance opportunities, for helping him realize his true musical potential. Mr. McCann is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the Missouri State Teachers Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Missouri Music Educators Association, the Missouri’s National Staff Development Council, the Nashville Songwriters Association International and the Gospel Music Association. Mr. McCann was married to the late Vickie Dean Brown for 35 years and is the proud father of two children, Luke and Mollie, and grandfather of two grandchildren, Camren and Jovie. L awrence A. “Larry” McCann had always been musically inclined, but he was not aware of the full extent of his capabilities until high school when placed in his choir’s most advanced group. Coming from a musical family, his father passed down jazz and his mother also had a gift for singing.
