39 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A n artist of many years and many brush strokes, Mark W. Patnode graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Purchase in 1978. There, he received thorough training in traditional drawing, watercolor, photography, sculpture and painting. Mr. Patnode turned to graphic design in an effort to provide a consistent source of income for his family beyond what he was bringing in as an artist, all while remaining in the realm of art. Sonalysts, Inc., based in Waterford, Connecticut, offered him a tremendous position, and he has worked there since 1984. Sonalysts has served governmental and commercial clients since 1973. They are among the few firms that have successfully integrated the advanced technology capabilities of a defense research, development and engineering firm with the creative talent of a full-service video, film, recording, graphics design, sound design and set construction. Over the years, Mr. Patnode has also been an adjunct professor at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut, and a master teaching artist at the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism. Mr. Patnode’s works were exhibited in the Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London in 1989 and 1993, and he was part of the teams that redesigned the Comsubdevron 12 logo, the SubtacDev’s 50th anniversary logo, the U.S. Ship Springfield logo and the U.S. Ship Toledo logo. He is also known for defining Comsubdevron 12-Tactical Analysis Group’s brand in the digital age. In addition to these accomplishments, Mr. Patnode is the artist of the book “United States Submarines,” published in 2002. Mr. Patnode is a member of the Gideons International New London Camp and the Purchase College Alumni Association, where he has been a communications director, designer, secretary and member of the board of directors. Additionally, Mr. Patnode has been a member of the Salmagundi Club since 2014, the New London Rotary since 2007 and a teaching artist at the Connecticut Office of the Arts since 2004. Outside of his art, Mr. Patnode’s hobbies include skiing and hiking. He was recognized with an Education Achievement Award from the Guilford Art Center in 2006. MARK W.
