40 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine E lisavietta Ritchie has been writing for as long as she can remember, and she managed to steadily continue until it blossomed into a flourishing career. Inspired to write from all aspects of her life, Ms. Ritchie recalls her grandmother giving her Russian poems to memorize, which later influenced part of her career as a translator of French and Russian. Ms. Ritchie received a BA in French, Russian and English from the University of California Berkeley in 1954 and an MA in French literature from American University in 1976. Ms. Ritchie was also a student at Cornell University and Georgetown University, and acquired a diploma with highest honors from the University of Paris. Ms. Ritchie has been a noteworthy writer, poet, journalist, translator and editor since the 1960s. She has served as president and co-president of fiction at the WashingtonWriters’ Publishing House and was an instructor at The Writer’s Center, various colleges and schools in the Greater Washington area, and in Canada and Australia. To date, she has been a small press publisher, public relations professional and creative writing teacher. A prolific workshop leader, Ms. Ritchie has also authored numerous works under the umbrella of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Her acclaimed creative works have included “Tightening the Circle Over Eel Country,” which garnered a New Writer’s Prize for Best First Book of Poetry, and “Raking the Snow,” a Washington Writers’ Publishing House competition winner. Other works to her credit include “Flying Time: Stories and Half-Stories,” “The Spirit of the Walrus,” “From the Artist’s Deathbed,” “Harbingers” and “Lunatic Moons: Insomnia Cantatas.” In 2019, she was a contributing editor of “PAX: An Anthology of Southern Maryland Poetry.” She has published more than 30 books and continues to write into her late 80s. Ms. Ritchie has received several fellowships through the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and four grants from the D.C. Commission for the Arts. She is a member of PEN International, Poets and Writers, The Writer’s Center, the Poetry Society of America, Amnesty International and the CalvART Gallery.
