48 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine M atthew J. Trachtenberg has had an eclectic career journey, where he started off in corporate banking, to now serving as the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of the National Orchestral Association in New York City. Mr. Trachtenberg received a BA, magna cum laude, from New York University in 1974 and a JD from Brooklyn Law School in 1977. In 1979, he was admitted to the New York State Bar, and in 1982, he obtained an MBA in Finance from Fordham University. Mr. Trachtenberg has served theNational Orchestral Association since 2006. Prior to that appointment, he held numerous high positions at such banks as U.S. Trust, First Republic Bank, Fleet Bank, PNC Bank, Chase Manhattan Bank, Chemical Bank and Manufacturers Hanover. At these banks, he served as senior vice president, managing director and vice president between 1977 and 2006. Mr. Trachtenberg served as Corporate Secretary for the Boards of Manufacturers Hanover Corporation and Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. In 1998, Mr. Trachtenberg was the recipient of the Distinguished Hospital Trustee Award from the United Hospital Fund of New York, and in 1976, he received Certificate of Meritorious Service recognizing his tenure as managing editor of Brooklyn Law School’s Justinian publication. Additionally, Mr. Trachtenberg was one of the contributing writers to the September 1997 “Statement on Corporate Governance” by the Business Roundtable, and he produced and directed the documentary “Leon Barzin and the National Orchestral Association.” Mr. Trachtenberg’s advice to others is to always respect the opinions of those who disagree with you, and seek to find common ground. The secret to intellectual growth lies not in reinforcing our own beliefs, by spending time only with people who agree with us, but in seeking out those with whom we do not agree. It is the ability to exchange ideas with people of differing perspectives that keeps us growing and evolving. Mr. Trachtenberg is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha. He sits on the board of directors of theMacula Foundation, Pat Palmer Foundation and the National Orchestral Association. MATTHEW J.
