Mr. Weitzenhoffer was also the president and chief executive officer of Seminole Manufacturing Co. and chief public relations office for the Oklahoma Health Department from 1964 to 1965. Mr. Weitzenhoffer is a member of the Broadway League, the Players Club, the Century Association, the Friars Club, Delta Kappa Epsilon and the Society of London Theatres. He is a trustee of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, vice president of New Dramatists and treasurer of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, Inc. Mr. Weitzenhoffer credits RuPaul Jones who ran the drama department at the University of Oklahoma as his greatest mentor. He also recognizes Alfred Drake, a top Broadway male actor, and Bernard Jacobs, who taught Mr. Weitzenhoffer the business, as great influences on his life and career. A. Max Weitzenhoffer has been immersed in the world of theatre since his childhood and has remained hooked for his entire life. Mr. Weitzenhoffer produced a number of high quality and award-winning Broadway shows during his time in New York. He thrived during the golden era of Broadway from the 1960s onward. When times in the New York theatre industry changed, he brought his talents to the stages of London. Mr. Weitzenhoffer was the recipient of Tony Awards in 1978 and 1991, the Laurence Oliver Award from the Society of London Theatres in 2000 and the Olivier Award from the Society of West End Theatres in 2000. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1994. The playwright graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1961 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2000, the university granted him an honorary doctorate. Mr. Weitzenhoffer is currently the chairman of Nimax Theatres, which owns six West End theatres in London, and has been president of Weitzenhoffer Productions Ltd. since 1965.
