54 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine S ince the 1960s, James H. Craig has had a vibrant career in the fine arts, and since 1985, he has been the owner of James Craig Fine & Decorative Arts and a fine arts consultant in Independence, Virginia. From 1969 to 1985, Mr. Craig was the president of Craig & Tarlton, Inc., in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also worked with the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in the 1960s and is a former curator of decorative arts with the North Carolina Office of Archives & History. Mr. Craig specializes in the cultural creations of the Carolinas and is the author of “The Arts and Crafts of North Carolina, 1699-1840,” published in 1965. Mr. Craig studied at the University of South Carolina, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School, as well as in Paris, France, between 1955 and 1960. Mr. Craig served as a trustee of the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 2000 to 2006, and he has supported the Sparta Museum Project, the Chamber Opera Theater of New York, Chamber Music Raleigh, the North Carolina Executive Mansion and the Metropolitan Opera. FINE ARTS CONSULTANT James Craig Fine & Decorative Arts Sarasota, FL D r. Thomas Bruce Birkenhead received a BA in 1954 and MA in 1958, both from Brooklyn College. In 1963, he obtained a PhD from The New School for Social Research. He began his career in 1957 at Brooklyn College as a lecturer and was promoted to professor of economics. Retiring in 1975 as the dean of the School of Social Sciences, he was also named professor emeritus. A patron of the arts, Dr. Birkenhead has been involved in numerous productions. He was secretary-treasurer for Highly Entertainment, producer of High Mountain Ghost and co-producer of the 1995 Tony Award Broadcast for N.H.K. Japan, among many other theater roles. Currently, he is a management consultant for the Keystone Center for the Performing Arts. A scholarship was named in his honor by the Performing Arts Management Program of Brooklyn College, and he was the recipient of the 1999 City University of New York Teaching Award. Dr. Birkenhead is a member of the U.S. Naval Institute, U.S. Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, World Jewish Congress, and Friends of Israel Defense Force.
