88 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A worldly educator, Gloria J. Fultonhas been able tomix her passion for travel and culture into a career within library science and education. With opportunities to study abroad, Ms. Fulton completed graduate coursework at the University of Zagreb in Croatia, and she studied architecture in a small Turkish town for one summer. Ms. Fulton calls her greatest career achievement the opportunity to teach various foreign students. She has hosted Japanese and Croatian students in her home and taught kindergarten and high school in Tokyo, Japan, for one year. Ms. Fulton graduated from the University of California Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in 1963 and a Master of Library Science in 1968. Growing up humbly, Ms. Fulton found herself within libraries quite often during her youth. Ms. Fulton felt that libraries are great places for people who do not have many educational resources, and so she began to pursue a career working in a library. In 1976, Ms. Fulton graduated from Humboldt State University with a Master of Arts. From 1970 until her retirement in 2000, Ms. Fulton was a librarian at Humboldt State University, and from 1979 to 1989, she was a professor of Russian language. She was a librarian at the Santa Monica Public Library in 1969, and her first job was as a consultant at RAND Corporation in Santa Monica in 1965. Ms. Fulton has been a fellow of the Council on Library and Information Resources, the National Defense Education Act, the Higher Education Act, the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the Institute of International Education and the University of Zagreb. Ms. Fulton is also a member of the American Library Association; the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies; and Phi Beta Kappa. Ms. Fulton credits Dr. Kiril Taranovski, a professor of Serb-Croatian, for encouraging her throughout her career and for helping her receive the Woodrow Wilson fellowship. She also thanks Richard Schupdack, a fellow student during her years at UC Los Angeles, for keeping in touch and inspiring her. Ms. Fulton recently purchased a farm in an effort to write more often.
